Marrakech: There’s only one world to define it: magical… There are a thousand legends which describe its history, which began in 1070 when the Saharan Almoravid Abu Baker, the leader of a powerful army, encamped in the plain of Haouz, at the base of the upper Atlas Mountains. Marrakech, the capital of the south, has a mysterious and seductive air. Marrakech, a name with a magical sound that evokes palm groves and caravans, oriental markets and international spies and duels to the death in an oasis of peace. Many are the roads which lead to Marrakech which make it a cross road from north to south and from east to west.

Day 3Marrakech - Agadir

Enjoy Breakfast at the hotel.
Drive to Agadir for approx. 4 hours. Stop en route to photograph the Goats climbing the Argan trees. Agadir is very different from any other city in Morocco. Built next to a tragedy the earthquake of 1961 that killed 15,000 – it exhibits a totally different city culture and architecture from the rest of the country Agadir was, and continued to be a favorite tourist destination. So it is no wonder that it was the needs of tourists which more than any other thing made the street wide and straight, houses low and minimalistic and which placed hotels between the city and the beach. Some people hate Agadir because there is very little that happens automatically here, while others find it all very attractive. One thing is definitely true: for every year that pass, streets become more and more lively, and more and more Moroccan elements move in where minimalist white houses before have dominated. OK! So Agadir might not be all that spectacular. And not all that Oriental, either. But as soon as you’re down on the beach, it is easy for anyone to really enjoy the city. The beach is all about relaxing! The beach is simply spectacular. It is clean, long wide and there is a continuous breeze coming in from the Atlantic which makes it a pleasant place all through the day.
Check & overnight at your Resort.

The Scalla the old cannon platform some of the cannons made in Seville in the 18th century are the finest workmanship ornamented with the crown of the king of Spain Philipe V and Charles III. Visit the residential neighborhood of Essaouira, the port area which is a real space to explore.

Day 7Essaouira - Safi - Oualidia - El Jadida - Casablanca

After breakfast at your hotel, you will drive to the nearest city to Essaouira the modern town of SAFI, which was made by the 11th century geographer El Bakri. In 1481 the Portuguese established a trading center at the entrance to the harbor, where they acted as brokers. In 1508 they took advantage of internal conflict to seize the town, which they subsequently fortified. Later they built a fortress in a position nearby the Atlantic coast Called Dar El Bahr to defend the north entrance to the old port. The platform of this square fortress, measuring 65 yards side, still has its old 17th century cannons, some of which were cast in Spain and others imported from Rotterdam, The Hague, France & Portugal. The Portuguese were driven out of Safi by Saadians in 1541. Towards the end of the 16th century and throughout the 17th, trade with Europe continued to expand and Safi became Morocco’s leading port. The thriving port’s activity was further boosted in the 20th century by the development of sardine fishing industry and the construction of a phosphate-processing plant. Don’t Miss up the Portuguese Chapel which bears the carved insignia of the Holy See and various royal coats of arms, including those of Portuguese sovereigns.
Drive for about 260kms through the coast road. Between the port El Jorf Lasfer and Oualidia runs along salt marches, oyster beds and agricultural land on which acres of early fruit and vegetables are grown each year. Oualidia, which overlooks a roadway, was founded by Saadian sultan El Oualid, who gave the town its name. In 1634 he built a kasbah to defend the entrance to the harbor. As well as being a popular seaside resort, modern Oualidia is famous for its oyster farms, which were developed during the 1950’s.
Continue your drive to El Jadida whose ramparts follows the line of the famous Sidi Bouzid beach, was built on the shores of the Atlantic by the Portuguese. It was considered to be the most protected site along the entire western coast of Morocco and could have become the largest port had the development of nearby Casablanca and Safi not thwarted its expansion. Continue to Azemmour then Casablanca.
